JANUARY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

MATH

Kasey Huls – Kasey is the student of the month in math.   She has encountered a few challenges that were beyond her control during her academic career, but she has persevered by working hard to reach her goals.  I admire her strength and determination and am looking forward to seeing her grow even more.

Conner Hurse – Science Student of the month for January is Conner Hurse.  Conner earned the highest score in Ms. Princehouse’s Physical Science classes, with a 95%.  Conner is engaged in class activities and asks excellent, clarifying questions during class discussion.  He completes his work punctually.  Conner is also extremely helpful to struggling classmates. ENGLISH

Ilinca Slabu has consistently achieved at an exceptional level all school year in English 11.  She, remarkably, had zero missing assignments in the first semester, and her work is always of high quality.  She is business like, efficient, conscientious, thoughtful, and detail oriented in all she does.  She also participates in class with insightful comments, behaves maturely, communicates politely with all, and is respectful, helpful, and courteous to all students.

Luis Ramos-Aquino is a Senior that comes to class daily with a positive “Can Do, Will Do Attitude” every day!!! He is organized, diligent, patient and an excellent self -advocate.   Not only does he focus on his own responsibilities but he is a strong leader, who gently encourages his peers to succeed with his positive attitude, constant smile, and kind words on a daily Basis.  What a Monarch!!! Kaitlyne Hylton – Senior Kaitlyne Hylton’s enthusiasm for and curiosity of the medium of clay is demonstrated best by her theme of choice:  dinosaurs.  Kaitlyne has excellent attendance, she’s a respectful studio member and raises the bar with each assignment; and as a result she’s growing in technical skill as she creates new ways to conceptualize her whimsical prehistoric creatures.  One wishes she would have taken Ceramics sooner in her high school career!

Jake FitzsimmonsJake Fitzsimmons wants to succeed, and he demonstrates the work ethic to achieve.  He works hard, completes the assignments, comes in before and after school to get help, and strives to earn the best grade.  He passed the Word Microsoft Certification exam with an 807 (excellent score).  Jake succeeds because he chooses to do his best.

Kylee Eastman-Moore has shown that she takes her opportunities and uses them to her benefit. If she’s absent she asks for notes. If she doesn’t understand something, she asks questions. Nevaeh Westfall is an extremely hard worker. This term she was rather ill and missed several weeks of school. Since that time she has worked hard through adversity and made up her missed work with excellence. Antonio DaSilva – Antonio is a third year Spanish student, who continues to demonstrate consistent growth and effort in his second language. Antonio is well on his way to becoming bilingual, and he is a joy to have in class.

Yudi Guzman-Dominguez is exhibiting all the traits of an AVID heart.  She has embraced the pressure that being an AVID student brings, but she has also taken advantage of the support AVID offers. Dennis Mihai-Lazar has been an excellent student in the Math Analysis classroom.  His efforts to be successful have been paying off.  He works very hard to complete his homework every night.  He reaches out to others for help when he needs it.  He is willing to help his fellow classmates when they ask.  Above all, he takes a risk every once in a while to participate in class with answers to the teacher’s questions, or to ask a question about the lesson.  Dennis’ efforts are exactly what all good students should be doing to be successful in any class.  Keep up the solid learning.

He will be competing for a spot to travel to Washington DC and receive a $10,000 scholarship.

Cody Schreier has proven to be one of the most creative students in Ceramics this year. Skyler McCoy is an exceptional student in Spanish 2. He does more than just simply complete his work, but rather thinks well beyond what is expected and is incredibly creative with the language. Emily Huffman has turned out to be one of my best students.  She is the most improved student I’ve had all year.  In the two semesters that I’ve gotten to know Emily she has pulled her grade up by almost 40 %.  I am very proud of her progress and I believe that she represents what it takes to be a true Monarch.

Adrianna Taormina works hard in Geometry and through this hard work she has improved her skills since first semester. She keeps her notebook up to date and uses it as a resource, she asks questions for clarification, and she checks her work in a constant effort to improve. ADMINISTRATION

Jewel Barnes has been made a major impact on our school this year in her role as ASB President. She has been involved in all aspects of student life and leads her peers in kind, purposeful, and passionate way. I had the opportunity to observe her running the weekly ASB meeting and was impressed by the professionalism, personal connection, and business oriented meeting. Jewel makes us all better, she is a model Monarch.

MUSIC (BAND)

Natalia Breeden plays tenor sax in both Jazz Band and Symphonic Band and is only a freshman.  She works really hard at her parts and has amazing sound and technique.  The entire Jazz Band voted for her to be the soloist at our upcoming festival after she competed against several other older musicians.  She is an incredible musician and has a lot of potential.

Ashley Smith nicely embodies the Renaissance mindset: she is eager to learn new things in a variety of disciplines with an appreciation of how they are all connected. Katie Sovel has been chosen for Student of the Month for Mathematics. Katie is a great example of a student who is taking control of her learning and putting forth her best effort. Katie works hard to have her homework complete and works through the process of correcting it. In her Freshman Math Seminar class, she is a leader by example. She uses her time wisely and if she misses some problems, she makes sure to go back and rework them until she gets them correct. She is also always respectful in class and willing to help those around her if they need it.

Brooklynn Smith scored a perfect score at the AREA 9 DECA and qualified for the State DECA Competition. She is a 4 year Marketing Student and has attended State 3 times for DECA. She is the volleyball captain, has been the KLOG Student of the Month all the while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She will be attending WSU next year.

Katie Troy defaults to choosing a concept and techniques that are always challenging.  If you watched her process you’d see her problem-solve naturally-making decisions that create an artwork that begs you to ask, “how did she do that?”  Katie also understands the fickle qualities of the medium and knows when to graciously step back, take a breath, and move on.  She is a clay super-hero.

CAREER CENTER

Natalie Ramos has been a great help as a Clerical Aid in the Career Center.  She helped organize forty bags of groceries which were sent home with students for Winter Break.  She was also involved in designing the Career Center door for the decorating contest.  Natalie is helpful and courteous when dealing with staff members and other students. Thanks, Natalie!

Antonio DaSilva is taking Honors Biology this year.  He started out pretty much with study and work skills similar to my regular biology students.  This semester I have seen a steady improvement. Today I can say that Antonio has the skills and drive of an Honors student.  His assignments are high quality and his participation in class discussions is good. He is good at higher order thinking. It has been fun for me to see Antonio emerge as a skilled student.
