SCIENCE

Aleydis Matiaz has been struggling in Science, but has worked hard to catch up by coming in after school to get help and retake a test. Nice job!

WORLD LANGUAGE

Ethan West is a fourth year Spanish student in AP. Despite several language deficits when he started advanced course work, he has disciplined himself and worked hard to improve. He never gives up, is extremely responsible, and has no fear to push himself to improve his skills. He is on track to pass the AP Spanish exam with his work ethic, and is an excellent example as to why you should never give up in a challenging course.

ENGLISH

Zach Kangas has excelled as one of my top students in senior English all year long. He has gone about his work in a quiet, business-like manner, always making consistent progress toward his academic goals. He has displayed strong academic writing and analytical thinking skills in all of his assignments. Furthermore, he has showed perseverance in working in working through an injury that kept him out of school for a week and has made some of his work more difficult. Keep it up, Zach!

Melaina is a natural at library skills such as shelving and organizing, as well as having an artistic flair when designing the hall display case. Johanna Clark is an extremely hard worker and enjoys being challenged in the classroom. She sets highs expectations for herself and is determined to achieve them. CERAMICS

Lucinda Galindo approaches the clay with seriousness tempered with an appreciation and respect for the medium and all its quirks and challenges. In addition, her sunny disposition and helpful attitude gives me the confidence that, if needed, she can assist others.   Lucinda’s infectious curiosity and enthusiasm is very welcome in the Ceramics I studio this year and I look forward to witnessing her creative growth and process.

LEADERSHIP

Mariyah Dore has continued to demonstrate an immense amount of growth in her skills and thoughtfulness as a leader. She has done a masterful job facilitating every group that she has been in charge of this year.  She also presented an excellent small group workshop at the state conference for the second time. Mariyah always goes above and beyond in all she does. She is an outstanding example of a servant leader, and is a young woman that anyone can look up to for outstanding character. Mariyah is also serving as ASB Vice-President.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Sydney Wood is a third year swimmer, but she started as a total non-swimmer. She has battled illness that has caused her to miss many days of school but she has stuck with the swimming and not given up. She is now an accomplished swimmer, has gained much confidence and becoming more healthy. I enjoyed having her in class!

MUSIC (Band)

Hailey Davis is a freshman and she has worked really hard to meet all of the new expectations for high school band.  She has a great attitude about pep band and worked really hard during marching season.  Marching can be very difficult and confusing for a beginner but she always gave her best and expected the same from students around her.  Knowing there are new students in my program with great attitudes like Hailey’s really make coming to work enjoyable.  Thank you, Hailey!

APRIL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

INTENSIVE ASSISTANCE TEAM

Lane Williams is the perfect demonstration of leadership by quiet example.  Every day, despite temptations by friends to visit or slack off, Lane gets to work immediately on assignments and homework. Daily he has a kind word to say to staff and peers and has an awesome sense of humor.  He offers to help others when they need it and he is a great self advocate! In addition, he is goal driven!  He sees the light at the end of the tunnel for graduation and to a future job and he lets nothing get in his way of success …and he did all this while wrestling and going to state!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Easton Henson had no idea how to swim when he started my class but has diligently applied himself. He has gone from barely being able to complete a length of the pool to being a very competent swimmer with one of the best times for the 300 in his class.  We are looking forward to having him try the triathlon this spring.

Mariah Roseman is an exemplary student, who puts 110% into each assignment that she is tasked with completing.  Her writing shows a lot of promise, as her organizational skills have improved rapidly during her freshman year at Mark Morris.  Furthermore, Mariah is always positive during class time and excels while collaborating with others.  Thank you.

MUSIC (BAND)

Travis Hutton is doing an amazing job on improvised solos in Jazz Band.  They are interesting, correctly executed and in tempo.  I enjoy listening to the creative ideas he expresses through his solos.  Travis also plays well in Symphonic Band.  He works hard to understand music and likes to go beyond ideas covered in class.  He is an outstanding musician.

Reise Dunivin, as a freshman, has struggled to get on top of her classes. At semester, I asked if she wanted to try Algebra Seminar. She agreed, and hasn’t looked back! She uses the class to stay on top of her Algebra homework and now boasts a high A in Algebra 1. She has learned to be self-driven, checking her homework and making corrections to increase her learning. So proud of Reise!

Nashovi Dachtler: To be successful in Ceramics a student needs to be willing to push themselves and try new techniques and experimentation beyond what is demonstrated by the instructor.  This curiosity and the strong work ethic that goes along with it has been demonstrated by Nashovi in Ceramics II this semester.  Nashovi is focused in class and often asks questions that speak of confidence and a maturity in working with clay.

Cassie Catlin is average when it comes to grades in math, but she has an A+ in commitment to learning.  Cassie is a good example of what it takes to be a good student.  She works hard to always complete her homework, check it for correctness and correct her mistakes each day.  Math doesn’t come easy for her, but she continues to do her best.  She works with other students to seek their help and to give them help.  She works through her difficulties in math and practices a Growth mindset.  She should be very proud of her hard work and dedication to learning.

Bogdan Malavrazic is a foreign exchange student from Montenegro who has wonderfully adjusted to all things American, especially speaking English. Jasmine Dohms stands out because she gets the job done to the best of her ability EVERY TIME! Her character can best be summed up with an example from class. She was placed in a group that seriously underperformed through absences and laziness…Instead of throwing in the towel herself, or whining and tattling on others for their lack of effort (which would have been understandable in her circumstance), she kept on keeping on. She finished the project and continued to encourage her group members to contribute during the presentation.

Kameron Werner is in all the bands AND Jazz Choir where he plays the drum set.  Kameron is not only an awesome player but someone who always has a great attitude.  When issues arise, Kameron doesn’t get discouraged and tries to work out the problems. Emma Jewell is the Library Student of the Month. Emma is a voracious reader and is the top “checkout” with over 40 books checked out first semester. Guadalupe Candia earned an A- in Ms. Princehouse’s Physical Science class, a tough class with a high failure rate.  She quietly does her job and learns the material.  Her work is typically on time and well done.  Her behavior in class is impeccable.  She is a great role model for other Monarchs.

Lanna Ruiz is a third year Spanish student. When she started Spanish 2 her skills were not the strongest, but she has worked diligently to consistently improve them.  Despite a few setbacks, she didn’t give up and recently achieved her highest letter grade in the course. Josh Leach is in Math Analysis, which is not a graduation requirement, but he is dedicated nonetheless. In first semester Josh had perfect attendance in math and he always worked hard. Tea Garcia has been chosen for Student of the Month for Mathematics. Tea has made great strides academically. She is a great example of a student who is taking control of her learning and putting forth her best effort. Tea always has her homework complete and works through the process of correcting it. If she misses some problems, she makes sure to go back and rework them until she gets them correct. She is also always respectful in class and willing to help those around her if they need it. I am so proud of Tea and growth she has shown as both a student and individual.

Kalina Makaiwi has been one of the top performers among all English 12 students throughout the school year. Amaya Busby-Frey is music (band) student of the month.  Amaya always has a great attitude, works really hard and is fun to be around.  I really appreciate her work ethic.  Amaya plays percussion in Concert Band and always gives 100%.  She is a great person in every way.

Brandon Hall is a CTE student in Dream Design Build.   Brandon shows up to class on time every day with a desire to work and help others. He is always willing to set his project aside to help, teach and lead fellow students. Brandon continues to improve skills and expresses goals to continue in CTE courses and as a career after high school. Brandon is a valuable member of the CTE community.

Olivia Flores is the library’s Student of the Month. Olivia’s creative talents and boundless energy are wonderful for creating displays and signs. She channels her talents into brightening the library and reaching out to patrons and co-workers alike. She is an avid reader and loves to talk books. Olivia provides a respite of brightness during the dark days of winter.

ENGLISH

Emma Chang has been a top-notch student in my Humanities class this year. Yes, she completes all her work on time and to a high standard of excellence, which is wonderful. More importantly, however, she engages herself completely and passionately in the subject matter in a way that reflects curiosity, open-mindedness, and genuine interest in whatever we are studying. This passion for learning manifests itself in assignments and class contributions that reveal both a deep knowledge of the subject and a love for learning and the arts that is admirable.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

Sarah Sanchez is in my 5th period ASL class. She came into my class a little later than the rest of them, but lost no time in getting caught up. She’s now one of my leading students in fluency and enthusiasm. Even on her roughest days she always comes in with a smile on her face and encourages everyone around her. Often when we come across a challenging aspect of ASL she’s the one who’ll keep the entire class positive.

Josie Boultinghouse’s enthusiasm and work ethic for the subject is greatly appreciated. She works hard to stay on top of current topics and isn’t afraid to participate in class discussions. Tyeson Gamble is an exemplary student in Ceramics I.  His natural abilities with conceptualizing an idea in clay and recognizing the lessons learned in the process speaks of an advanced level student and not a beginner.   What particularly impresses is Tyeson’s questioning:  he continually inquires on techniques and outcomes in construction and glazing and uses any information to experiment and better his process in creating unique and well-crafted art work.
